So sorry for your loss, Terry. Sometimes there's little rhyme or reason to friendship. Just like love. -

by wasone inin 1968 merle haggard released a country song with the lyrics " and i turned twenty-one in prison doing life without parole.

Kingdom Hall Built on Site of Former Slave Market
by Wild_Thing inin mississippi, there is a historical site called forks of the road.
before the civil war, it was one of the most active slave trading markets in the south.
it was a triangular piece of land formed by ... you guessed it ... a fork in the road.

I don't know for sure, but I imagine that line of tall trees was planted specifically to hide the KH from those visiting the historical site and vice versa. The JW's wouldn't want to be visually associated with even a historical site related to slavery.
Ironic, considering that their precious Bible doesn't condemn slavery at all. It fact, it presents it as a societal norm in both the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) and the Greek Scriptures (New Testament). What scant few regulations regarding slavery there are basically protect the slave owner or prohibit only the most egregious mistreatment of slaves. In the New Testament, slaves are ordered to be obedient to their masters. Not even a hint can be found that slavery is wrong in and of itself. Thank goodness society as a whole has outgrown the Bible in that regard. Now if we could just get rid of all the other superstitions...

Commercial activism.
by Ben131895 inin his last couple of vlogs, john cedars is wearing a t-shirt saying shunned.
some people liked it and asked him if they could purchase one.. in his last vlog (#111) he is advertising it and mentioned the link www.apostee.com, based in the us.
comments attached to vlog # 110 mentioned the fact that this company will close in april and that the business will be continued by cedars itself, who has also a stock of anti-witness items.. besides that, he was not the owner of jwsurvey.org, but since january 16, 2016 he is.. it looks (as mentioned before by simon in an earlier thread), this guy is making a living from his activism, a paid career.. one should seriously question his true motives, demonstrated in his activism.

Like his approach or not, he does seem to be genuinely motivated. If he wants to offer bling that supports his cause, who cares? Buy it, don't buy it, it's all up to you. No reason to begrudge him the right to help support himself and his family by offering things some people want and are consistent with his overall message. Not everyone can afford to be a purist and do all he does without some monetary return. We have to be realistic.

GodZoo: Terry started this thread to share his joy over the kind, thoughtful, and timely gift his loving son had just given him. So yes, it's entirely about Terry as a human being.
Your unsolicited put-down of the gift was entirely uncalled for. This wasn't a discussion of the merits of various laptop manufacturers. Perhaps you can afford the very best and latest in technology, but that's beside the point. No one asked or cares about your evaluation of the worth of a spontaneous gift from a son to his father.
Whatever the truth is about your self-professed expertise, your unseemly attempt at one-upmanship fairly screams inferiority complex and a need for attention. Why not just take pleasure in someone else's joy and avoid dampening their enthusiasm for no reason? Life is so much easier that way.

It's sad that some people feel they have to rain on someone else's parade. Maybe it makes them feel superior and a bit smug that they're so much smarter than the other person. I'm talking to you, GodZoo. I seriously doubt you're as smart as Terry, can write anywhere nearly as well, or could have the same wonderful outlook and attitude that he does after all he's been through.
Terry was exulting over a unexpected and loving gift from his son. Maybe his son couldn't afford a more expensive laptop. Doesn't matter. Terry was very pleased with it and promptly put it to good use. Who are you to denigrate the gift and make it seem not so special after all? You should be ashamed of yourself.

Congratulations, Terry, on (1) not losing anything when Zeus took out your Toshiba and (2) getting a shiny new laptop that can do everything you want and is much better than its predecessor, but most of all (3) having a wonderful son who obviously loves you.
You just won the trifecta of good karma, my friend! You deserve it. Enjoy!
(Now put that new Chromebook to good use and tell us some more of your wonderful stories.)
